Wertetraditionen und Wertekonflikte in interkultureller Perspektive 2.-3. Mai 2012 Universität Innsbruck, Alter Senatssaal

Während Wertetraditionen, unverzichtbar als Anker- und Orientierungspunkte des Lebens, ehemals geistigen Rückhalt garantierten, evozieren sie heute vielfach Irritation und Verunsicherung. Welche praxisleitenden Vorgaben sollen bei divergierenden oder gegensätzlichen Wertvorstellungen gelten? Die Wertephilosophie steht heute vor großen Herausforderungen. Zwischen einem universaldogmatischen Ansatz und relativistischen Positionen liegen viele Versuche, Moralkonsense zu etablieren bzw. mit Moralkonflikten umzugehen. Die Verschiedenheit der kulturellen Selbst- und Weltverständnisse spiegelt unterschiedliche Wertetraditionen, die es zu verstehen und als historisch gewachsene zu respektieren gilt. Andererseits scheint ein gemeinsamer Verständnishorizont, ein übergreifendes globales Ethos, angesichts der gegenwärtigen globalen Probleme zumindest in wesentlichen Punkten dringend nötig. Der Kongress soll einen Wertediskurs über kulturelle Grenzen hinweg ermöglichen und unterschiedliche Begründungsmodelle zur Sprache bringen, die der Problembewältigung dienen können.

‚Resource Rights and Sustainable Resource Management‘ Centre for Ethics, University of Zurich, Switzerland 16th and 17th of February 2012

In times of increasing resource scarcity, mass poverty and rapid
environmental degeneration this workshop seeks to analyse the
normative and political challenges for achieving the aim of just and
sustainable resource management. The workshop brings together a range
of international experts who will address (among others) the issues of
what resource rights are, which claims people have to existing
resources, what guidelines trade in natural resources should follow,
which institutions effective environmental resource governance
requires, and what the demands of just and sustainable resource
management actually are.

La dernière philosophie de Schelling, dite par lui « philosophie positive » et embrassant une philosophie de la Révélation et une philosophie de la Mythologie, constitue pour son promoteur la tentative de clore sur lui-même le mouvement d’autocompréhension de l’idéalisme allemand. De fait, elle fut bien plutôt l’ultime réouverture d’une pensée qui n’a jamais cessé de se déséquilibrer dans la remise en chantier des structures et des concepts qu’elle inventait et l’interminable récapitulation de ses constructions. A ce titre, il peut bien sembler que, dans son « grandiose échec » (Heidegger), la dernière philosophie de Schelling fut sans lendemain ni postérité. Le colloque voudrait montrer au contraire qu’elle a disposé à sa façon les thèmes et les schèmes de toute la philosophie post- (et anti-) hégélienne, depuis ses successeurs immédiats jusqu’à la philosophie contemporaine. Bien qu’il n’existe guère de « schellingianisme » en raison du mouvement propre à cette pensée rebâtissant sans cesse sur ses ruines, il y a bel et bien une très singulière prégnance d’un legs erratique, il y a bel et bien un héritage de la dernière philosophie schellingienne, sans testament ni mode d’emploi. De façon tout à fait explicite dans une lignée qui irait de Kierkegaard à Heidegger et de manière plus secrète, de Marx à la philosophie française du XXème siècle. Ce sont ces ramifications, ces transmissions, dans leurs différences et leurs interruptions aussi, que notre colloque se propose de placer au centre de ses travaux.

Ausgewiesene Experten werden zu ihren jeweiligen Fächern Stellung beziehen und Forschungsdesiderata aufzeigen. Die Tagung findet am 24. Durch die gegenwärtige Systemkrise des globalisierten Kapitalismus gewinnt der Historische Materialismus Marx´ und Engels´ neue Aktualität. Habermas hat bis zum Ende der 70er Jahre dezidiert an ihn angeknüpft. Er baute das Basis/Überbau-Theorem zu einer Theorie der sozialen Evolution aus und reformulierte das Programm der Einheit von Theorie und Praxis im Rückgriff auf die ältere Frankfurter Schule. Seine kommunikationstheoretischen Ansätze, die er in Zusammenarbeit mit Karl-Otto Apel entwickelte, sollen ein zentrales Defizit des traditionellen Marxismus ? das Fehlen einer Theorie demokratischer Institutionen ? beheben. Auf der Tagung soll das philosophische und gesellschaftskritische Potential von Habermas´ Rekonstruktion und Revision des Historischen Materialismus ausgeleuchtet werden. Habermas wird auf die Beiträge replizieren.

Die Tagung ist öffentlich und frei zugänglich.

Aims and scope
A sequel to CTF’07 and CTF’09, CTF’12 is the third interdisciplinary
conference to contribute to the development of a general frame theory of
human concepts. The conference explores the application of frames in
linguistics and other sciences. It discusses foundational issues for the
development of a theory of frames from the perspectives of general and
computational linguistics, mathematics, cognitive psychology, cognitive
neuroscience, ontology, philosophy of mind, and philosophy of science.

Frames
CTF’12 explores fundamental aspects of a formal theory of frames
understood as recursive attribute-value structures with functional
attributes. The aspects include representation and model-theoretic
interpretation, attributes and value types, and appropriate frame
structures for different types of concepts. A special focus will be on
dynamic aspects of frame theory: modeling dynamic frame components for
event and process frames; exploring operations on frames such as type
shifts and frame composition.

Cognition
CTF’12 explores empirical evidence for and consequences of the frame
approach. It addresses the distinction of types of concepts, in
particular relational and functional nominal concepts. Major topics
include the grounding of concepts in the sensory-motor system and
dynamic aspects of concept formation.

Language
CTF1’2 explores the application of a formal­ized theory of frames at
various levels of linguistic description: lexical semantics of the
different conceptual types of nouns and verbs, deep lexical
decomposition, semantics of word formation, the syntax-semantics
interface, syntactic and semantic composition, and anaphora and
coherence in discourse.

Science
CTF’12 explores the applications of the frame approach in various fields
of institutional categorization: e.g., the evolution of the frame notion
in the history of philosophy; scientific frames and paradigm shifts;
frames for legal concepts; frames in applied ontology; a frame model of
the mind; and frame description of psychiatric disorders.

Ontologies are increasingly used in the semantic description of biological and medical data from creation to publication and consumption by semantically enabled applications. To be effective, such ontologies must be of high quality and work well together. Therefore, issues like techniques for ontology use, good ontology design, ontology maintenance, and ontology coordination need to be addressed. The International Conference on Biomedical Ontology (ICBO) series is designed to meet this need. ICBO 2012, the third event in the highly successful series, will bring together representatives of all major communities involved in ontology use and development in biomedical research, health care, and related areas.

ICBO 2012 is soliciting submissions of novel (not previously published nor concurrently submitted) research papers in the areas of the application of ontologies to biomedical problems, ontology design and ontology interoperability, at any stage in the process of data creation to its use in applications. Submissions will be welcome from a broad range of approaches to ontology building and use. In particular, we would like to invite contributions on these aspects of biomedical ontologies, as well as on the use of such ontologies in knowledge management, knowledge discovery and next-generation publishing. We will accept full-length papers (5 pages), poster submissions (1 page abstracts), software demonstrations (2 page abstracts or 5 page full application papers), and early career researcher symposium submissions (2 page abstracts). We are also looking for submissions of half-day or full-day workshops and tutorials. Workshops should be working sessions with a specific outcome t
hat can be subsequently presented at the main conference. Tutorials are educational events and may involve hands-on practicals.

Die Seele im Mittelalter. Von der Substanz zum funktionalen System – Hannover

Der Begriff der Seele hat in der wissenschaftlichen Literatur gegenwärtig fast nur mehr einen metaphorischen Gebrauch. Die Tagung erneuert in systematischer wie in historischer Perspektive die Frage, ob das Lebensprinzip des Menschen etwas Substantielles, Eigenständiges sei oder vielmehr ein System von hirnphysiologisch nachweisbaren Reizen und Reaktionen. Darüber hinaus soll an diesem Modell erörtert werden, wie weit eine im traditionellen Sinne philosophische Bestimmung metaphysischer Ideen überhaupt möglich ist. In dieser Reflexion sollen Vertreter verschiedener Wissensgebiete und kultureller Traditionen einen Schritt in die Richtung eines erweiterten Philosophieverständnisses tun, das in der Epoche der Globalisierung und der mit ihr verbundenen Konflikte an der Zeit ist.
